Chinese designer Li Jingxuan has developed a way for you to mail your favorite scents. Introduced at the 2012 Sony Student Design Workshop, the Scent Capturing Printer uses an ‘electronic nose’ to analyze smells and translate them onto scented postcards. Scratch and sniff stickers, eat your hearts out.
Details after the pause.
The way the printer functions is kind of cool. First, a sensor captures the smell. The printer then mixes pre-loaded, aroma based inks to mimic the smell and print it on a postcard in the form of an image. To reveal the smell, the recipient would peel a flap on the back side of the image. So far only food scents have been successfully captured.
