FashionNY2020 : Spicing Up the Fashion Capital
Last week during the WWD C.E.O. Summit at the Plaza Hotel, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg showed his commitment in keeping NYC’s reputation as a Fashion Capital. FashionNY2020 is a yearlong study by city officials and fashion experts of challenges the city faces and what they could do to improve the industry. One of the initiatives is the NYC Fashion Fund, which will provide new and emerging designers with money for production and manufacturing. Other proposals include: Project Pop-up, which is a contest for coming up with cool and unique store concepts; New York City Fashion Fellows, which will showcase 30 rising stars in fashion; and Designer as Entrepreneur, which will teach emerging designers the business side of fashion.
What do you guys think? Will it work? Or is this not enough or unnecessary in order to promote our fashion community in NYC?
