Weekend Recs : Summer Bummer
If you happen to be in East Hampton this weekend and or before September 6 (and we envy you seriously if you are) make your way over to see Aurel Schmidt’s latest show at the Fireplace Project. She’s expanded her collection of precisely drawn color pencil works, this group seems to have some of her most precious seeming pieces yet. The undercurrent of dark femininity remains (aka imagery of penises and cigarettes) but the drawings have a more innocent spin, many including highly detailed studies of flowers. I’m sure a few of those, often with no visible irony, we’re aimed at selling to a more conservative Hampton’s crowd. We’re not hating though, Aurel Schmidt is one of our favorite contemporary artists. Check out more after the jump.
