Weekend Recs : St Marks Block Party + Cars Uptown
2nd annual St. Marks Block Party is this Saturday 7/31, starting at noon and running til 8pm. Food, live music, booze, and even a meat pie eating contest! St. Marks Place between 1st Ave and A. And, in case you are staying uptown, there is an interesting show at the Museum of the City of New York called Cars, Culture and The City which illustrates how NYC helped propel the car into mainstream use in the mid-20th century. More deets after the jump….
New York isn’t known for its car culture; more than half of the city commutes by public transportation rather than private automobile. This exhibit, however, illustrates the link between the auto industry and New York—and how NYC helped propel the car into mainstream use in the mid-20th century. Oh we are just throwing the car nerds a bone!
