RIP: Nicolas Hayek
Nicolas Hayek, the inventor of Swatch Watches passed away yesterday. In the 80s he was comissioned to help the Swiss watch industry repopularize analog watches- Japanese competors, like Seiko, new digital watches were becoming more and more popular and threatening to push watches with hands out of the picture. Besides a leading series of finanically smart business mergers, Hayek’s introduction of a simple, low priced, and brightly colored watch saved the tradition of Swiss watch making. As you may know- Swatches became ultra-trendy in the US during the 80′s and mid-90s and remain a collectors item to this day.
