London Connection: RIP Luella
Another day, another fashion casualty. The news that Luella is ceasing trading has come to a shock to the industry. Luella has always been a favourite, grabbing the title of British designer of the year 2008, and dressing the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Alexa Chung and Lily Allen to name but a few. She tells the Guardian: “This is a very disappointing situation for everyone involved with the brand,” Bartley said. “I have had an incredible team around me and very much appreciate the support that VSQ [a subsidiary of Club 21] have given me, but it is upsetting not to be able to protect jobs in this difficult economic climate. I love the Luella character and hope that after we have survived this challenging time the Luella girl can have an exciting future ahead of her, whichever incarnation she takes on next. We have a number of options open to us and are considering these over the coming months.” Farewell and we look forward to Luella’s next adventure.
