London Connection: Purple Reigns

Prince’s (that is squiggle, not of Wales or any other country) attendance at Paris Fashion Week was the most exciting part of the week for me – fashion twitter feeds went mad about him at YSL, Christian Dior and Chanel – and who can blame them? This living legend got me through my angsty teenage years, quite anti-the hip-hop / gangsta rap (though I love it too) of my peers in my formative years back in the 80′s. I remember forcing my mum to make purple curtains and purple linen, so I could sing and dance to Purple Rain and Sign of the Times – in fact ‘Sign of the Times’ is still my favourite tune of all time. I have followed this self-taught musical genius til now, attending both his gigs in London and will continue to do so for as long as I live. Prince – I salute you. You were one of the people that changed my life forever.

prince is the man! someone needs to be bring back this look!! enough of re-inventions of madonna – someone reincarnate into PRINCE!
Indeed indeed indeed my dear. My cherished memories of PRINCE are many+ include buying the12 ” of When Doves Cry in Majorca in1985, dancing elegantly with friends – at THE RIVERSIDE in Newcastle – in1987 to Kiss. My beautiful friend Johnny who owned LOVESEXY, my hilarious friend Guy who owned Diamonds and Pearls+ played it ALL the time. And gazing with fascination at his teeny weeny boots at the East End London factory that made them for him, in the late1990s. Tiny maybe – but MIGHTY!
How can one be so gay, and simultaneously so NOT gay? Prince is amazing. No homo.
