Fucking Awesome Are Not, Really

We were slightly disturbed to see cutting edge skate brand Fucking Awesome use homeless people as their models for their Fall wares. This is both insensitive and exploitive, kinda like those bum fight videos from the 90′s. Or is it just commentary that the cool shit is to look poor? Maybe they paid these guys a lil scratch, so it is all fair… What do you think, dear readers? More pics from this shoot after the jump…..

if they keep making the crap that they try and sell, they will be the homeless models in a few years…the irony!

Take the sticks out of your asses. Did you ever consider that these “bums” were paid for their services. How is that any different than paying “models” some dough to wear shlt. Both the models and bums probably took their paychecks and wasted it on blow and beers anyways. Get over it, ur just mad you didn’t think of it first.

I guess the homeless trend happens occasionally in fashion especially in times of economic upheaval, but this seems really bad. I thought Erin Wasson’s dumb-ass comments were a one-off thing but I guess more people are happy to flaunt their privilege by using other ‘unfortunates’ as props in their own ‘artful’ self-reflections. It’s a pity this brand decided to detract from its mediocre and unimaginative product by using easy controversy and exploitation.

If they actually paid the people for being a part of the ad campaign, then I think it’s really great. In that case, it’s actually cool to get a break from seeing nothing but skinny scene kids as models. It’s a win-win. If they weren’t paid, however…..unawesome.

@Jest – you are a tool. Read the post she said that if they got paid it’s all fair… Idiot.

I’m looking at the ads and i like it, makes me focus on the clothing that they are trying to sale, I def don’t see any trends they are trying to follow, I mean c’mon the name of the brand is fucking awesome i doubt if they really give a fuck about what you think besides the product they are selling, i’m sure it raised some questions, and maybe that’s what they wanted, so this ad is fucking awesome

i like this brand usually but i feel that this is both unoriginal and is abusive. Stunting on the homeless is a cheap way of getting attention. the irony is lost on me.

Does anyone here really believe these were the first geniuses to decide it was edgy to have a bum model clothing? Cus I remember lots of people doing it, and it remains distasteful and exploitative. I’m not trippin off it though, my father was a bum and he put food on the table modeling t-shirts (during med school.)
