Dress Me: Homecoming Queen
Sabrina is Blogue’s New Blogger! She works as a dress buyer for a big old department store and is here to shine her wisdom on us. So here goes:
“Hey Prom” is usually the hello I get from my friends when we go out at night. It’s not that I am wearing a ballgown or anything, but I am usually a little overdressed. My reply generally is: “It’s not prom I am going to, It’s homecoming!” (It is a little less formal, right?) So, last night I revisited my homecoming dress from senior year of high school. Yes, I still have the dress hanging in my closet. (and it still fits!) Right now we’re buying dresses for homecoming season, and it made me ask myself, what would my modern day homecoming dress be ? I liked a lot of fun Betsey Johnson dresses from Fashion Week. In comparison to my lace ivory and black party dress, I think her bold styles can be interpreted into what my modern day homecoming dress would be. I think the 2009 version of me can step it up a notch. Perhaps, its the many years that have passed since 2002. Just a hunch.
I have seen a lot of animal prints, plaids, and ruffles. Fabrics such as taffeta have been starting to show up, such as the grey dress shown by Betsey. It’s interesting how plaid can even be interpreted in a social way. A plaid party dress? Fun. Even the hemlines I have seen are different, from asymmetrical to pick ups to lace party sticking out.
Maybe I wont be going to homecoming again, but when my reunion rolls around- You bet I will have a new lace party dress on. As for now, you can find me in the dirty bar in a party dress ready to go to the nearest homecoming dance!
