London Connection: Oh My Days..
Rinse’s 15th birthday is taking place on the 31st July and it’s gonna be so so so big! So big you probably even have to get a boat to the venue because it’s in Greenwich! More deets after the jump…….
Rinse started out as a pirate radio station in 1994 broadcast from apartment blocks with the aim to promote the capital’s thriving urban music community and in 2007 it got a legal FM licence. It’s fair to say that it’s paved the way for many British artists with the likes of Dizzee Rascal (one of my fave artists), Skream and Wiley all getting their first exposure there, leading to the nationwide obsession with grime, dubstep and the fashion that goes with it.
And for this reason, the showcase next Saturday will be somewhere where all Londoners will want to be. Among others, it sees the return of the super talented MS DYNAMITE, the brilliant KODE 9 on the Hyperdub label; and CRAZY COUSINZ, who have just released “This Is UK Funky House”, an album that’s adding a smile to a few grim Londoners at the minute.
Anyway, going to be a really good night, if you want a taste of what London is really about and some amazing tunes to dance to till 6 in the morn’, get yourselves down….. however, if you can’t quite justify the trip over the Atlantic, tune into the station here. It’s A’ L O T!
