If you walked by the Scoop store in Soho yesterday you might have noticed a bit of a protest going on. 17 Ex-employees are demanding $500,000 in lost wages. Apparently Scoop swindled these former security and stock workers out of overtime hourly pay by giving them fake promotions which put them on salary. All 17 employees hail from West Africa, and had been working for Scoop throughout it’s growth from boutique to swanky chain store. The protest was organized by the Retail Action Project who helps employees fight unfair retail practices. Clever do-gooders that they are, they were apparently giving away free Scoops of ice cream to support the cause.
