What We’re Into: Ashish

Ashish sparkles, literally! The King of Sequins, Ashish Gupta, is the epitome of fashion-forward. A graduate of Central Saint Martin’s in 2000, Ashish has been creating wow-worthy collections ever since. Inspired by an array of ethnicities from India (his home country), to Africa, Scandinavia, America, and many more. His designs vary from sleek and sexy looks reminiscent of vintage YSL, to the freaky fun attitude of his Fall 2009 line.  It is amazing that with such loud clothing designs, he has stayed so quiet in the fashion world. Not for long though! Amazing Ashish creations past to present after the jump…

‘I’m interested in making something as fabulous as it can be. It has to be an object of desire; whether it’s a T-shirt or a dress. But my real fashion philosophy is you have to wear an evening gown like a T-shirt ands a T-shirt like an evening gown. I put pockets in everything too; if you are wearing an evening dress with pockets it relaxes you. My customers are a broad spectrum. In the last month a 60-year-old woman bought a sequin biker jacket, and a 16-year-old girl bought a party dress.’ - Grazia Daily.Co.Uk

Tie Dye tights became a huge hit this past winter… Ashish put them on the runway in 2005

You can’t see from the pics, but these pieces are fully adorned in clear sequins

‘I think I love sequins because I love the way they react with light. There is something magical about wearing sequins on your body. You can never be underdressed or overdressed in a sequin sweatshirt. Each single sequin on an Ashish piece is sewn on by hand at my factory in Delhi. One jacket can take 12 people 3 days to create. It’s intensive work. Very technical.’ – Grazia Daily.Co.Uk
