Fashion Flashback : Clarissa Explains It All
As a kid, Clarissa Explains It All was one of my favorite show. It featured a very young Melissa Joan Hart (pre-Sabrina). The story centered around the adorable Clarissa, her family life, and her relationship with her best friend, Sam… And since Jezebel did Blossom Russo Vs. Clarissa Darling a couple of weeks ago, we figured it would be a good time to do our spin on this Emmy winning show. But the notable highlight of this TV gem was Clarissa’s zany style. Whether Clarissa was being bugged by her bratty dweeb of a brother, hanging with Sam (kudos to the writers for letting them keep it platonic), or spending quality time with her pet baby Caiman (in the crocodile family), Elvis, she managed to do it with flair. It was such an innovative show. They made references to things like sex, and partying. Even though it wasn’t in a racy fashion (I mean, they did mention Freud), it was still more than any other series catering solely to that demographic would dare to do. She actually said “hell”. Even today Nickelodeon doesn’t allow the dropping of the “h-bomb” (though referrences to “making-out” seem to be fine). So with a well-read, easy-going protagonist whose style is as independent as she, Clarissa is still a hero in my book.

When I was younger I went on a trip to universal studios where they filmed Clarissa, and I went inside the wardrobe dept for the show.
OMG.
I died. dream closet.
I felt that way in Michael Jackson’s closet. But when I woke up my anus hurt and there were sequins around the rim.

I loved her phone too!! I tried to replicate one for myself.. but no such luck! I wish they’d bring this show back, much better than the crap these kids watch nowadays!!
