God Bless – Bless Fall 2009
Quirky Berlin-based label Bless makes far more than the gold chain sunglasses for which they are best known in America. But in spite of, the “diva”-worthy shades, the streetwear line is far edgier than it is glamorous. With silhouettes that are reminiscent of labels like Bernhard Wilhelm, it seems their pieces are far more befitting of Copenhagen fashionistas than pop princesses.
Also befitting is the for a line best known for its eyewear is just how important glasses are for this season. They were clever enough to find a way to s translate a 3D anaglyph mountain motif into their knitwear. And where do the glasses come in? Well they are made with one lens green, the other red are not only sunglasses, but 3-D glasses well. A playfully ingenious innovation. Catering to what they call “all three genders” (whatever that means), the line is a hodgepodge of individual and wholly unconnected items (save for the 3-D them). And while the collection may be a bit “out there” (their press release saying it’s about “the pronounced unimportance of gender difference”), it gets kudos for taking risks. Because after all, that’s what fashion is about, n’est pas?
