Benoît Missolin Fall 2009
One of my favorite milliners, Paris-based Benoît Missolin makes everything from kitschy lace bunny ears to seas shell-encrusted headbands. His working having graced the pages of everything from Vogue to i-D, and the ears of fashionistas like Heidi Klum and Lou Doillon, the line of handbags and headgear has been receiving some well-deserved attention.
With the perfect balance of refinement and whimsy, Benoît’s hat collection has just the kind of fabulously fun and superfluous assortment of headgear that would give even a connoisseur like Madge a run for her money. He’s even garnered the attention of heavyweights like VPL and Diesel (the kind of attention that has lead to collaborations for the designers’ Spring 2008 and Fall 2009 collections, respectively).
As for Fall/Winter 2009, expect Mickey Mouse ears, wire batwing halos, wool turbans– and loads of felt! Personal favorites of mine include the yarn fez hat, and the delightful cap with a built-in mask. Ah, when you’re a girl who wishes every day was Halloween, the opportunity to play dress-up with quirky accessories is a welcome one.
