Weekend Recommendations: Pop Up Swaps and Art Spaces
Oh snap – a Sea Monkey family painting! Artists are taking over temporary spaces to showcase their talents all over the city, this one looks especially good. And they are also screening a documentary (about B&H Dairy supposedly). Then Saturday a good ole fashioned swap meet in Brooklyn and it’s Japan Day (this sunday 5/13!), more details after the jump…….
Land of the free, home of the brave shaped from gun shell casings? Social commentary on our dear country of ours…. Hmmm.

On Saturday, May 30th, the Gowanus Canal will lend its shoreline to Brooklyn’s biggest free store.
HOW SCORE! WORKS
1. Attendees bring their old Twisted Sister albums, ill-advised sample sale purchases, dog-eared graphic novel collections, etc, and leave with new treasures.
2. BKLYN Yard will be split into departments, each “curated” by different individuals and organizations
APPAREL – Amy & Leslie www.pancakesandhappiness.com
BOOKS – The Desk Set http://thedeskset.org/
KITCHEN PRODUCTS – Natalie Kamei www.pancakesandhappiness.com
MUSIC – MeanRed www.meanredproductions.com
3. Volunteers will sort donations, a roving stylist will be available to make wardrobe suggestions, the Treats Truck will be on hand to satisfy sugar cravings, and local DJs will provide the background music for a lazy Spring day at BKLYN Yard.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations can be dropped off prior to the event, or left at the door. All left-over items will be collected by Rock and Wrap It Up – an anti-poverty “think tank” that distributes donations to worth non-profits throughout the city.
