To Photoshop or Not, that is the question…..

In today’s NY Times there is another article about photoshopping, aka retouching, aka airbrushing.

“The ethical issues of retouching have been discussed at least since the 1930s, when George Hurrell manipulated characteristics of Hollywood actresses in photographs to make them into icons of glamour. But technology has changed the scope of the debate, fueling a long-held criticism that magazines are promoting an unattainable standard of beauty.”

Being a former fashion magazine editor, I am on the fence about this issue. Those who know me, know that I am all about the really real, but when it comes to images as art (or fashion adverts) it is both fun (and sometimes very necessary) to change the original for a more polished result.
