Save the Garment Center
Anna Sui has cooked up an idea to help save the shrinking garment center of New York City. She conceived the idea for the T-shirt, which also has e-mail addresses of important New York City officials on the back, to raise awareness of the shrinking manufacturing and production facilities in the Garment Center. She has teamed with several designers to galvanize members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America to find a way to preserve the Garment Center. Sui hopes the shirt gets circulated at as many shows as possible this coming Fashion Week, and orders for the shirts must be submitted to Thomas Miller at Anna Sui by Friday, they’ll go at $6 each. Sui’s intentions are good, but has she taken into account the current high prices of maintaining a business in Manhattan? As well as the high cost of manufacturing in the city? A t-shirt may not be the thing that will be save the problems of the city.
